Pay Me in Salt

Image

Geologists

found glacial debris of Germany,

Denmark, Poland

from blue earth

in the Prussian province of Samland;

Some fished for pearls,

others hunted for gold of the north.

The tree is the oldest known source

of wood resin;

prehistoric men gathered up from Baltic shores,

when storms thundered the material

up under the sea;

flowing into a Tertiary glauconite formation.

(What’s around my neck is

65 million years old)

Some fisherman were paid in salt,

for their raw amber,

weight for weight,

gold for gold.
